Helen Stenger, Riverview Cemetery Superintendent, was born in Steubenville, Ohio and graduated from Steubenville Big Red. She moved to East Liverpool in 1954 when her husband, Malcolm L. "Jim" Stenger, was discharged from the U.S. Army and assumed the position of Assistant Superintendent of Riverview. After the death of his grandfather, Roy Shingleton, who was the Superintendent from 1939 to 1959, the family moved into the cemetery house where Jim became the Superintendent. At that time their daughter was 3 months of age and their son 3 years.
After Jim's death in 1985, Helen applied for and was elected Superintendent by the 60 member board. She is pleased that her grown children have chosen to live in their hometown. Mike is Executive Manager of Ponderosa Steakhouse and Janis Pridemore is a gifted and talented Intervention Specialist in the East Liverpool Schools.
Helen considers it a privilege to manage historic Riverview Cemetery and enjoys not only her job and family but an opportunity to contribute to her community as a member of First United Methodist Church, Salvation Army Advisory Board, East Liverpool City Hospital Auxilliary, East Liverpool Historical Society, Quota Club, New Century Club, and Colloquium Study Club.
